Mr Kennedy has practised extensively in a variety of areas including defamation, common law, commercial, equity, crime and school and workplace bullying and harrassment cases.

He has appeared as junior counsel to leading silk in a large number of defamation trials such as Wran v The ABC, Wran v 2UE, Evatt v John Fairfax, Hill v Taylor, Morris v John Fairfax and Sims ats Wran.

He has developed expertise as a jury advocate and as an appellate counsel.

In 1983 he appeared as junior counsel with Alec Shand QC on behalf of the Premier of New South Wales, Mr Neville Wran, in the Street Royal Commission.

He has developed a particular expertise in the common law areas including defamation, professional negligence including medical negligence and major workplace and school bullying and harrassment cases.

He appeared as trial advocate for Mrs Hart in Chappel v Hart (1998) 195 CLR 232. He appeared at all stages to the High Court in RTA (NSW) ats Dederer (2007) 234 CLR 330 for Mr Dederer a major diving case. He also appeared for Mr Naidu in Nationwide News Pty Limited ats Naidu (2007) NSWCA 377 (21 December 2007) in which the trial judge's verdict of $2.05 million for workplace bullying/harassment was upheld in the Court of Appeal.

He recently appeared as Seniour Counsel in a school bullying case of Oyston v St Patrick's College in the Suprmeme Court of NSW to which a verdict was entered in favour of the plaintiff by Schmidt J on 13 April 2011 (2011 NSWSC 269)

In the last 10 years or so he has acted as a mediator in substantial matters. He is a nationally accredited mediator and is a member of the Supreme and District Courts of New South Wales Mediators' panels. He has also been appointed as a mediator in Dust Diseases matters and a contributions assessor.
