Mr Johnson has a special interest in land and environment law. He is on the Council of the Environmental Planning Law Association (NSW), the peak independent body providing comment and analysis on legislation and liaising with the government and courts on land and environment legal issues. His particular involvement in the Association is providing environmental legal knowledge educational services to country areas in New South Wales.
He acted for the plaintiff in the leading case on the Constitutional immunity of State instrumentalities, Peters v Queensland Commissioner for Railways.
He is a former President of the NSW Society of the Art Gallery and was on its council for 12 years.
