DDP v. M (1998) - Successful defence of a pathologist in prosecution under the Health Insurance Act for allegedly making false claims under the Medicare system. Defence required to establish that the accused did not and could not reasonably have known of the circumstances.

Mr Hewitt is on the Panel of Counsel for Lawcover and the Panel of Counsel of a number of insurance companies. He is on the Bar Association's list of representatives appointed to arbitrate fees disputes with solicitors.
He authored an article published in the Australian Law Journal on joint tortfeasors and, subsequently, was a consultant to the Law Reform Commission team examining amendments to contribution legislation. He has also contributed articles to the Bar Review, and the Australian and New Zealand Insurance Reporter.
Mr Hewitt was a presenter for the Television Education Network which produced taped discussions of recent decisions from the Judgments Bulletin for Solicitors, as part of the CLE program.
