Andrew Oag

“37 years experience in insurance and common law damages litigation”

Prior to being called to the Bar, Andrew completed a Bachelor of Laws (University of Sydney) in 1985 and was admitted to the Supreme Court in January 1986. He practised in defendant litigation at a leading insurance firm before moving to the Public Interest Advocacy Centre. There he represented 1,500 Australian claimants in the International Dalkon Shield class action, the first major product liability litigation of its kind in Australia. During his career, both as a solicitor and barrister, Andrew has acted for plaintiffs and defendants. Andrew also spent 8 years on the NSW Bar Association Common Law Committee.

Andrew has always held the belief, first quoted by His Honour Kim Santow, that “A legal answer which offends common sense or basic fairness is usually wrong, however cleverly contrived”
