Mr Alex Giurtalis was admitted in 2000. He began practise as a solicitor, conducting civil and criminal litigation in almost all NSW jurisdictions, before moving to a large national personal injury firm, where he specialised in dust diseases litigation and insolvency law.
At the Bar, Mr Giurtalis has practised in a wide variety of jurisdictions, acting in a variety of common law and insurance litigation.
Mr Giurtalis is regarded as one of the leading dust diseases and toxic tort barristers in Australia, acting for both plaintiffs and defendants in all States, both at trial and appellate level. He regularly conducts expedited litigation throughout Australia in difficult circumstances, involving terminally ill plaintiffs.
Mr Giurtalis is an appointed Contributions Assessor under the Dust Diseases Tribunal Regulation 2013 (NSW). He is also appointed by the Dust Diseases Tribunal of NSW as the sole barrister member of the Dust Diseases Tribunal Rule Committee under the Dust Diseases Tribunal Act 1989 (NSW).
Mr Giurtalis also conducts a specialist practice in sexual and institutional abuse litigation.
